The Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Credit Union, a non-profit organization, began its efforts with volunteers who were employees of the then Blue Cross of Oregon (a.k.a. Northwest Hospital Service) in 1961. The credit union was established as a means to provide loan and savings opportunities for employees of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon. In 1983 Blue Cross of Oregon and Oregon Physicians Service (OPS) merged and became Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon. The credit union held a renaming contest, in which more than half the name suggestions were Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Credit Union. The name was voted on by the Board of Directors at the time, and accepted. Today, we are a thriving business, able to meet your individual demands with fervor and cheer. We have come a long way: the original credit union began with only eight thousand dollars in assets; today we exceed six and a half million dollars in assets and offer a wide range of financial services for both you and your family. |
